Steve Hane
President and Chief Executive Officer, Ampulse

Steven Hane joined Ampulse in July 2008 with an outstanding performance record in leadership roles within both venture-backed start-ups and large-scale businesses.

Prior to a consulting engagement with national venture fund Battelle Ventures that led to his Ampulse appointment, Hane was president and chief executive officer of Picolight Inc., a pioneer in designing and manufacturing the vertical cavity surface-emitting laser, a key technology used in high-speed and short-to-medium-distance optical interconnects.

He assumed Picolights top positions in the fall of 2004 and within two years had designed a company restart that produced dramatic increases in revenue, profitability and customer acceptance of Picolights optical technologies. Picolight became one of the fastest-growing entities in optics and Hane orchestrated its successful $125-million sale to JDS Uniphase Corp. [NASDAQ: JDSU], completed in mid-2007. The company went on to be named the Colorado Photonics Industry Associations 2007 Company of the Year.

From 2000 to 2004 Hane was vice president of business development for LightPointe Communications Inc., a free-space optics manufacturer then in start-up phase. He led strategic-partnership development with such companies as Cisco, Siemens, Corning and Huawei, and he drove industry-first technology deployments of free-space optics with top service providers, including Qwest and Nextel. During Hanes tenure, Lightpointes business grew to more than 2,300 systems deployed in 60 countries.

In the 1990s Hane was vice president in the business broadband group of ADC Telecommunications Inc. [NASDAQ: ADCT], where he had begun his career in 1984.

Responsible for North American sales, he was instrumental in leading a network transport and access product group to a $500-million revenue run-rate, with more than 70 product approvals in an eight-year span of service. He also grew ADCs Chicago and Denver offices into the companys two most-revenue-generating centers at the time, with revenue exceeding $100 million per center.

Hane holds a Bachelor of Science degree in geological engineering from the University of Minnesotas Institute of Technology. With his present efforts focused on emerging clean technologies, Hane serves on the advisory board of the University of Colorados Deming Center for Entrepreneurship and was named the 2008 National Clean Energy Entrepreneur of the Year for early seed ventures at the 21st NREL Industry Growth Forum.
