About Us: Board Member BiosJoel SerfaceJoel Serface joined Kleiner Perkins as an entrepreneur-in-residence in 2008 as part of its partnership with the United States Department of Energy. His job is to help DOE realize the full commercialization potential of its investment into the National Renewable Energy Laboratories. Prior to joining Kleiner Perkins, Serface was the director of the Austin Clean Energy Incubator where he helped launch five renewable energy companies: ActaCell, Accuwater, Atonometrics, SAVE and an algae biofuels company. Serface also launched the CleanTX Foundation, served as the chairman of the Austin Clean Energy Council, and was a member of the Governors Competitiveness Council on Energy. Serface previously served as a partner at Eastman Ventures, leading its clean technology and nanotech investments and at Sierra Ventures where he made its first clean technology investment. Serface started his career in Texas as a legislative assistant in the Senate Committee on Natural Resources. He also worked as a management consultant with Ernst & Young. He advised leading utilities, chemical companies and life science companies. Serface was a founding member of Environmental Entrepreneurs. Serface received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical and environmental engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master of Business Administration degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management. At MIT, he received the McGovern Entrepreneurship Award for starting the MIT Venture Capital Conference. |
